To cut or not to cut - A Pixie!

So I finally write about my hair-cut... I had read so many awesome blogs while I researched for my look... so I thought I ought to do a post in order to help someone make a decision on whether or not to go for a Pixie... also answering some of the most common questions people are asking me... It's going to be a really long post!

Why did I cut my hair so short? Well very honestly I was plain bored of my long hair... once it's so long there's not much you can do except for leaving it open day and night.... I'm sure those one-sided braids, Greek braids and french braids look awesome.... but believe me they look awesome only on celebs after they have had a hair stylist braid it for them and spray a bottle full of hair spray to make it stay the way it's supposed to stay.... I remember the days I tried braiding them.... ohhhh my hands ached....  I was either leaving my hair open or tying up a sock bun which is also so damn boring... So I was just plain bored.... Why should one need a reason to cut hair anyways?

How could I cut such long hair? For one thing I realllyyyy wanted to.... and secondly because it's hair.... come on.... it's one thing in the whole world that you have an absolute surety of getting back exactly the way it was.... it is going to grow back... so why stress so much? It's the safest bet, least riskiest of all risks.... the most harmless experiment of all.... Think about it. Plus I have done this twice or thrice before too.... I have cut my really long hair into really short bobs (bobs are so out now that I would say nobody should do a bob for the next 10-15 years at least) So basically I'm not extra sensitive about the "length" of my hair (I'm am quite particular about other important aspects such as not colouring my hair with chemicals or giving heat treatments to tamper with it's natural form)

Was I scared? No! Once I made the decision, no doubt I spent a lot of time researching what would suit me (and driving Hubby crazy) but I never thought of going back.... In fact I was thrilled and too excited.... I wanted to look different... I looked almost the same for 3 years (had gone short in 2009) Was I the only one who felt inspired by Aamir's Titan ad? He said do not resemble your passport picture for more than 3 months... I'm at least sticking with mine for 3 years :P

Why Pixie short? The thought of going pixie occurred to me almost 6 months back... somewhere in the new year I wanted to go really really short.... may be because I had started seeing these lovely and demure looking Hollywood celebs going pixie one after another and yet looking stunning no matter the size and shapes of their faces and heads.... I mean we all have seen Halle Berry and Posh Beckham (I have always loved woman with short hair) with pixie cuts for years... but I thought it looked good on them because they are skinny and their face is so tiny and because of their personalities... But now look at Ginnifer Goodwin, Anne Hathway, Emma Watson, Keira Knightley, there are so many more... no matter what the shape and size of the face, there is a pixie style for each one of us... I had to wait so long because my brother decided to get married and I didn't wan't to hurt the sentiments of my family and relatives by going so short at the big Indian traditional wedding :P Although I'm very excited to try out Indian looks with this hair.... it would look so cool... :)

How does it feel? Absolutely wonderful! I personally feel every girl should go for a pixie at least to just get the feel of it.... I mean I have a feminine (not girly) taste in clothes, style, colours, etc. and a pixie might appear to be a masculine/tomboyish choice to many but that is so wrong.... I mean, weirdly but honestly I feel more feminine than before... it feels so chic... so hassle free... neat... it's like shedding away all your accessories/safety blankets/masks and being plain you and yet feeling beautiful...

How to decide a pixie?  I read many blogs and did a lot of research before I finally sat in the chair.... I went to 5-6 stylists around the city and discussed my look before I finalised the salon and booked an appointment.... Also study the shape of your face and study the pixie that would enhance your features (google it... it's all there) One of the 6 places I went for consultation told me to not go for it because I had no cheekbones (till now I was blissfully unaware) but rest of the 5 places not only told me to go for it but suggested the exact same cut which I had also come up with after reading blogs and sites for my face... Some sites said you either need to have high cheekbones or big eyes and I thought at least I have one of the two! :P... basically you have to go with your own gut feeling.... I mean I knew I would be able to deal with it whatever the outcome is.... and also my point that "it's hair and it's going to grow back".... so if you are one of those wondering to cut or not to cut.... I say simply cut!

Am I going to keep it short? Yes! Till the time I get bored of short hair... and also not growing it until I'm done experimenting with pixies of various lengths and style!

Saying "hi"

Finally I get to say "hi" to you all after a gap... because all this while I had been blogging about various events and stuff like that... didn't really feel like I was interacting... and in the meanwhile my week was pretty different and exciting... Why??

First time after coming to Perth I had to stay without my hubby for two days.. and I was excited.. And not because he was going to be away....  but because I had planned to cut my hair when he was gone.. hehe that was the plan.. to surprise him with a new wife!

So I cut my hair.. I'm sure most of you have seen it already... I plan to do a whole long post on that soon... I think I ought to... as a lot of people are calling me "brave" :P

Then came the bloggers meet... met so many wonderful bloggers and the effect is still on as I got onto reading so many new blogs... so difficult to catch up with all...

I stayed at a friend's place for those two days.. I admit here on my blog that I just cannot stay alone at night.. I'm scared of Ghosts (thanks to all the horror movies I keep watching once in a while) So the stay was pretty cool and awesome.... girly days with watching movies, talking, visiting all the art and other exhibitions in the city and eating! She spoilt me with so much food.... my god!

A short trip/vacation was long due and as soon as hubby got back we left for Mandurah... will do a post on that too soon... so much I planned and so much backlog!

Then we had a whole three days of rain here this weekend... one of the rainy days I attended a fashion event.... was a little scary wait at the bus stop all drenched and chilly on the way back! Rest of the days we spent doing kitchen experiments.. haaha... was funn! We made easy, healthy and tasty stuff...

A shoot I tried at the Mandurah trip... the weather there too didn't allow much!

Skatt Birthday Bash

Skatt celebrated their 10th birthday bash on Friday at their awesome Mt hawthorn studio. I had attended a show at Skatt before and hence couldn't wait for this one, the venue is just too cool, it's a spa/salon studio with a ramp! It was an incredible celebration combined with a fun fashion showcase from some of the prime brands in Perth like Tarvydas, Kristina B, Lost Souls, Goldilocks Boutiques and Alla Moda Channel. The fashion showcases were based on interesting themes like Lego, Winter Wonderland, Luxury Goth Tribal and Under the sea and the entire team of Skatt did a superb job with the hair and make up by creatively using these themes.

And can there be a birthday bash without gifts and chocolates?!! Skatt spoiled us with colourful candies of all possible fruity flavours at the candy bar, so many great vouchers and lovely gifts. All in all a fun night and I was so glad to have met Julia of Bolushe Fashion blogger again after the bloggers meet.

Sleeping Beauties by Pippa Mcmanus

As a design student, fashion illustration was my favourite subject... have always been into drawings and paintings and I surely don't suck at it (I cannot dare to say I'm good while doing a post on Pippa's work!) Also I know how difficult, taxing and intricate fashion illustrations are... having your signature styled croqui and having a signature styled use of colours is so important that we spent days racking our brains trying to master our own styles... And all of this on a small sheet of A3 sized paper... and now look at these beauties... sleeping gracefully on massive canvases!

Her intricate work on the prints and texture of the garments is absolutely detailed but not rigid or exact and thus has a relaxed charm about it.... Love it!

This year's collection has an amazing breezy/casual vibe through out as compared to the highly elaborate nature of last year's "With flowers in their hair".... every time a new concept with it's own beautiful characteristics...

Every time I see her work I get so inspired to start with my illustrations again... but with the blog and the label it eventually ends up taking a back seat...

Pippa with her own favourite beauty of the day... she says "everyday I have a new favourite, today it's her"... I'm sure it's hard to choose from your own babies... such gorgeous ones... Love the green hair here!

I was so disheartened when I couldn't make it to the opening night but so glad.... as this visit certainly turned out to be more special...

Times Square Claremont: Perth fashion bloggers meet

Being from India and new to Perth I have followers from India, few from other countries but hardly any from Perth.. and due to this though I have been invited to blogger meets in Delhi and Bombay in the past (which I obviously could not attend) I was never invited to any meets in Perth... and somewhere in all my excitement of blogging I forgot to stress on Perth fashion or making connections in Perth (how very silly of me!!!) I realised this huge fault and started connecting to bloggers, fashion agencies and events and within couple of weeks I got this invite! Yippeee!

The event was held at Lemon Espresso where we were treated with yummy sweets and coffee.. we simply sat and chatted over an hour! Lovely place to hang out and their lemon macaroons are soo ummm... my mouth's watering again!

Yummy!!

From the cafe we got on to business ;) browsing and looking through the amazing major brands in Perth... along with some new emerging talents which are slowly filling up Times square Claremont.. sure to make this place the most sought after fashion destination in Perth

Drooled over exciting ranges @Times square Claremont: Leona Edmiston, Poppy Lissiman, Tarvydas, Ae'lkeimi, Lost souls, Breathless, Cultstatus.

I'm so glad I got to meet these lovely bloggers!!

Adelle from WhereStyledThingsAre who was my first connect to the Perth's blogging world... such a sweet person who has patiently and wonderfully replied to all my "blogging queries" and told me how important patience is when you are in fashion or blogging. :)

Cindy from Rose gold Whimsy is so sweet and all smiles :)

So glad to have finally met Kailee from The Manikin  and her super cute baby! :D

Met so many more lovely bloggers but I'm yet to find them and their blogs online.. will soon sit with the list I made of their names and blogs and send out my "hi" :D

Thank you Times Square Claremont and Nikola for hosting such a great event for us and most of all for inviting me! :)

And finally me... This is for those of you I met at the bloggers meet with short hair, who may get confused seeing my earlier posts... as the silly me forgot to get a pic of myself clicked at the event! :P

Wear it like a girl

Another one from my husband's wardrobe... I love plaids, tartans, gingham.... anything checks (especially on guys).... when we first started going out I gifted him all sorts of checkered shirts from Nautica (I was working for Nautica then and got a good discount ;))... they do have really good collections for men (if you girls wanna gift someone) though I haven't seen the brand here in Perth. I do have a couple of plaid tops and a gingham shirt of my own... it's one of the trends that's on all round the year and forever (different forms of course) but what I really like is checkered "boyfriend's shirt" look... when it's loose and ill-fitted it's definitely effortlessly stylish and also so comfortable! Pair it with short shorts, skirts, skinny denims, leggings and red lips and you are ready to go.

Hubby: "The glares make you look like a bug on the green grass" :P

Shirt: Nautica (hubby's)
Denims: Pepe
